Background
When I began working with Hyprcubd as a contractor early in 2021, I was brought on to assist with bringing a new professional networking platform to life. Our co-founders had experienced numerous frustrations with other platforms, and sought to develop a space where individuals can freely connect and share their professional experience without sacrificing their personality.
Requirements
The application would need...
Profile management, where users can showcase their professional lives, as well as export their information to others outside of the platform as a digital business card.
A feature where users could create 'pods', or groups for users to join to have focused discussions, share job postings, or offer professional services.
Support for standard social platform features, including user-generated content, instant messaging, and robust search capabilities.
Development
I worked alongside a senior engineer to develop the application's backend using Go and Dgraph, while other team members created the frontend using Vue. My role was primarily to develop the platform's search capabilities, a community board where users can create and engage with content, as well as a profile showcase where users can highlight their professional portfolio.
I was also responsible for many secondary features, such as custom user analytics, authorization to allow users to send platform invitations and share their profiles publicly, and external service integrations with Stripe and Mailchimp. Outside of active development, I assisted other team members with code reviews and debugging.
Outcome
ThinkPod was released to the public during the fall of 2021, and currently has over 2,500 users. We also expanded the project to include a mobile application, which was released in early in 2022.
